Description
Granite is a common group of intrusive felsic igneous rocks, much of which is in New England, that form at great depths and pressures. The word granite comes from the Latin "granum", meaning grain. It is a composite of many types of rocks and minerals, including orthoclase and plagioclase feldspars, quartz, hornblende, biotite, muscovite and minor accessory minerals such as magnetite, garnet, zircon and apatite. Its density makes it a great choice for countertops and other surfaces.
